Many non-Asians get tattoos consisting of Chinese-looking or Japanese-looking letters (or kanji, to be more exact). They think these letters mean.... one thing. But often the kanji mean something else.

Here are a few examples of celebrities whose tattoos miss the mark:

* Denver Nuggets basketball player Chris Anderson was told the Chinese character on one shoulder means "good" and the one on the other shoulder means "bad". Oooops. The character he was told means "bad" actually means "nausea".

*Another basketball player, Shawn Marion of the Toronto Raptors, refers to himself as "The Matrix". So he got a tattoo for his leg which he was assured meant "The Matrix". Oooops. The Chinese meaning is more like "Demon bird camphor".

*Justin Timberlake is a well-known singer. So it makes sense to put the character "qu", which means "song", on his hot body. Oooops. It doesn't mean "song", it means "bent, crooked or wrong".

* Britney Spears got into the Kabbala thing, like her friend Madonna. She had some Kabbala symbols put on the back of her neck [see picture]. They were supposed to mean "healing". Ooooops. The three symbols were inked out of order, so her tattoos don't really mean anything.
